Fair season continues with…

The Hammonassett Festival celebrating Native American Heritage at the Guilford Fairgrounds Saturday 10am-7pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm.  Tickets $5.

The Big E concludes this weekend at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield.  Livestock, food, parades, music, Avenue of the States, the famous butter sculpture and so much more!

The Southington Apple Harvest Festival runs this weekend and next with Apple Crisp, Apple Fritters, parades, fireworks, arts & crafts, live music, carnival rides on the Southington Town Green.

Head to the water for the Mystic River Oyster Festival at Mystic Seaport Saturday 11am to 5pm.  Samples from vendors, live music, environmental and historical presentations.  Admission is free with Seaport Admission but food tickets are extra.

Don’t miss the Bushnell Block Party Saturday as they celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month 11am to 4pm with food trucks, live music, hip-hop and salsa lessons and more.  This event is FREE.

The Barnes Museum and The Southington Orchard Valley Garden Club will hold a Pumpkin Carving Contest on the grounds of the Museum on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM, the first Saturday of the Southington Apple Harvest Festival. Festival Fairgoers will determine the winners by People’s Choice balloting. All completed carved pumpkin entries should be brought to the Barnes Museum Friday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM or Saturday 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Entry fee for adults is $5.00 and children under 12 are free. Adult prizes will be $100 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. Children will receive 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons and free ice cream certificates donated by Pat’s Ice Cream on Main Street. Winners need not be present. Faerieville USA: In and Around a Wee Faerie Town is the theme at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme Saturday through October 29th.  Visitors can dress like fairies while touring a wee town with a bakery, factory, library, flower & dress shops, even a drive-in movie theater!  Admission is $15 adults, $14 seniors, $13 students and free 12 and under.

Drink that you May Live is a new Ancient Glass exhibit at the Yale University Art Gallery now through November 12th.  View over 130 pieces of ancient glass, some near 3,000 years old including cups, bowls, pitchers, flasks, bottles, cosmetic vials, jars and more.  The oldest pieces date back to Egypt from the 2nd millennium!

Are you ready to try Yoga?  Yoga in the City takes place every day except Friday in Hartford for FREE!  The Vasu Tribe Studio of Hartford offers free outdoor Yoga weeknights at 5:30 Monday & Wednesday in Bushnell Park, Tuesday and Thursdays in Elizabeth Park. Catch a great new exhibit “Yankees-Red Sox” at the Mattatuck Museum, 144 W. Main Street, Waterbury.  News clippings, ticket stubs, action shots, hats, bats, uniforms and a copy of the Babe Ruth Contract from the Sox to the Yanks, a piece of the Green Monster and a seat from original Yankee Stadium.   The exhibit runs through November 12th.
