Monday night turned out to be a night of reflection and a night to sort out our feelings in light of the events of the day: The shootings in Las Vegas and the news about musician Tom Petty. I was golfing with a friend in the morning and hadn’t turned on the news yet when my friend told me of the tragedy in Las Vegas. In the afternoon, I was sitting in the office at a computer working when someone came running in to tell me that there were reports that Tom Petty had suffered a heart attack.
On the radio at night, the mood was somber and reflective. Donna in New Britain was thinking of the people of Las Vegas and wanted me to play a Marvin Gaye song.
A listener from Cheshire who wanted to remain anonymous was also thinking of the people in Las Vegas and asked me to play a song by Bette Midler.
Daniel in Meriden reached out to Denise in New Britain with the message: “I love you Denise. You’re are the best.” Earth, Wind and Fire played one of his favorties.
Thanks for all the dedication from Hartford, West Hartford, New Britain, Meriden, Kensington, Tolland, Waterbury, Winsted and towns all over Southern New England.
If I had to choose a favorite Tom Petty song, it would probably be this one. I love the way the whole band sounds. Great song.
