Selena Gomez and David Henrie Reunite to Share Details of New Film Virtual Premiere

A 'Wizards Of Waverly Place' reunion

August 11, 2020

Alex and Justin Russo are up to something! Well, actually it’s Selena Gomez and David Henrie that are, but we can hope.

On Monday, SelGo and her "big brother” both shared a teaser for their upcoming “feel-good movie” and Henrie’s directorial debut film, This Is the Year.

In the clip, the former Wizards of Waverly Place co-stars remained socially distant separated by a grassy wall and after exclaiming “we’re back!,” Selena explained that her and Henrie were teaming up for “the first live virtual film premiere.” What is a virtual premiere exactly? Glad you asked. We’ll let Selena explain.

"Most premieres are only for a very small, select group of people, but not this one, we want all of you to watch it with us.”

The digital premiere will be held Aug. 28 at 4:30PM PT / 7:30PM ET and hosted by TikTok stars Charli and Dixie D’Amelio. The event will also feature a Q&A with Henrie, Gomez, and the rest of the cast; Lorenzo James Henrie, Vanessa Marano, Gregg Sulkin (another Wizards alum), Jeff Garlin, as well as a performance by lovelytheband.

As per IMDB, the film, which Henrie also wrote with Pepe Portillo and Bug Hall, follows a nerdy high school senior who embarks on a road trip with his friends to see their favorite band at the biggest music festival of the year, in a last-ditch effort to win over the girl of his dreams.

According to Gomez the teen comedy “will give you all the feels,” adding that “with all the craziness going on in the world, a feel-good movie is just what we need.” She ain’t wrong…

Tickets to the event, which benefits the Plus1 COVID-19 Relief Fund, are available now on the film's website.

And if all that Wizards nostalgia wasn't enough, we have a little more for you. Reunions must be in the air because just last week Henrie had a mini-reunion with Wizards of Waverly Place costars Jennifer Stone (who played Gomez's on-screen BFF Harper Finkle) and Gregg Sulkin ( who played Gomez's TV love interest Mason Greyback) for his YouTube channel Gregg and Cameron, which he runs with fellow actor Cameron Fuller. The trio reminisced about their time on the beloved series and played a game of trivia based on Wizards of Waverly Place.
