A seemingly contradictory statistic out of the recent numbers released in the mid-year report by pollstar, is the inconsistency in which touring artists are aging while recording artists are getting younger. It may not seem logical that while the age of people making music is trending toward youth, while the age of those playing it live should be heading into retirement. Less than half of the top 10 touring musicians are under 40; and only two of those are younger than 30. While the other half are all over 50.

Here are the top 10 touring musicians halfway through the year, and their age in parentheses:

  1. Elton John (72)
  2. P!nk (39)
  3. Justin Timberlake (38)
  4. Metallica (55)
  5. Fleetwood Mac (72)
  6. Ed Sheeran (28)
  7. Kiss (64)
  8. Trans-Siberian Orchestra (56)
  9. Bob Seger (74)
  10. Travis Scott (28)
